چکیده

Magnetic resonance force microscopy can enable nanoscale imaging of spin lifetime. We report temperaturedependent measurements of the spin correlation time τm of the statistical fluctuations of the spin polarization—the spin noise—of ensembles containing ∼100 electron spins by this technique. Magnetomechanical relaxation due to spin-cantilever coupling was controlled and spurious mechanisms that can affect the spin correlation time of the microscopic signal were characterized. These measurements have ramifications for optimizing spin sensitivity, understanding local spin dynamics, and for nanoscale imaging.

Detection and manipulation of statistical polarization in small spin ensembles.

We report the detection of the square root of N statistical polarization in a small ensemble of electron spin centers in SiO2 by magnetic resonance force microscopy. A novel detection technique was employed that captures the statistical polarization and cycles it between states that are either locked or antilocked to the effective field in the rotating frame. Using field gradients as high as 5 ...

Electron spin detection in the frequency domain under the interrupted Oscillating Cantilever-driven Adiabatic Reversal (iOSCAR) Protocol

Magnetic Resonance Force Microscopy (MRFM) is an emergent technology for measuring spin-induced attonewton forces using a micromachined cantilever. In the interrupted Oscillating Cantilever-driven Adiabatic Reversal (iOSCAR) method, small ensembles of electron spins are manipulated by an external radio frequency (RF) magnetic field to produce small periodic deviations in the resonant frequency ...

Force-detected nuclear magnetic resonance: recent advances and future challenges.

We review recent efforts to detect small numbers of nuclear spins using magnetic resonance force microscopy. Magnetic resonance force microscopy (MRFM) is a scanning probe technique that relies on the mechanical measurement of the weak magnetic force between a microscopic magnet and the magnetic moments in a sample. Spurred by the recent progress in fabricating ultrasensitive force detectors, M...

Sparse reconstruction of molecular images: the MRFM challenge

Recently, an emerging technology called magnetic resonance force microscopy (MRFM) has demonstrated the ability to detect and localize magnetic force signals originating from individual electron spins and from small ensembles of nuclear spins. By measuring weak magnetic forces from hydrogen nuclei, three dimensional (3D) magnetic resonance images with nanometer resolution have been successfully...
